1TB recommendation for Amstrad DRX890 HD box

Postby jgalvin » Wed Jan 12, 2011 10:50 am

Hi

I want to replace the 500G Seagate Pipeline drive in my Amstrad DRX890 HD box.
I'm not interested in copying over my old recordings as I have the Darwin EPG, which is
incompatible with Copy+

1TB is plenty and I threw in a Hitachi I happened to have lying around. All seemed
well with the fan etc on installation and I was able to record. I did a full system reset
as I believe that's the only way to release the full 1TB. After the box came back to life
the fan was on constantly and I could clearly hear disc accesses but all functionality seemed fine.

I've put the original disc back and before ordering a replacement are there any opinions on the most
compatible drives?

Amazon are selling the 1TB Seagate Pipeline for £56, but I can get a WD Caviar Green 1TB WD10EARS for €58
which could be eminently suitable.
Any other suggestions?

TIA

Also interested in this.

Sorry I know the forum is for the Copy+ software, but at present this does not cover the Amstrad HD units. I'm not worried about any current recordings, but I'd like to upgrade the hard drive.

Thanks

Hi Both,

I am also interested in this - so sorry, no recommendation from me...

However, I can point out to you that the WD you're considering creates stuttering issues with your recordings.
I bought it myself from dabs, and have returned it.
It does look very compatible, but other topics on this forum highlight the issues - please see here:

Good luck,
ChL.
