Hi, has anyone upgraded their HD box to the Samsung HD204UI Spinpoint F4 2TB - the system won't let me post a link for some reason, but you can see the spec on the Ebuyer website, their # quickfind code: 237908

Many thanks
Ian

This is an Advanced Format drive with 4K sectors. As such it is almost certainly unsuitable for use in a Sky+ box as others have found.
Also drives over 1TB are only supported in the Amstrad Sky+HD boxes.

many thanks for the quick reply, I'll give it a miss then, shame, as it's so cheap for a 2tb drive

I do have the Amstrad box though ( DRX890 ) so 2TB should be okay. Just need to decide now 1) whether to go to 1 TB or 2 TB and 2) which drive to choose !

Also check out the Darwin FAQ before you decide.

Many thanks, yes I do have Darwin on my box. I'm not too bothered about copying over existing recordings from the old drive though, so don't think that's too much of an issue? I do have a pre-Darwin XTV image, to prepare the drive if I go for 2TB

Any recommendations on a 1TB drive, or a 2TB one please? I'm going around in circles a bit trying to find out which model would be best. I'd prefer 2TB ideally, if the price differential over a 1TB isn't too big

Cheers
Ian

Yes, you need a pre-Darwin image to copy from to prepare a drive.

No sorry - not enough time to be personally testing and recommending drives.
Bets advice is same make and model series as drive already supplied, and/or read the forums as see what others have used.
Advanced Format (4K sectors) drives are best avoided based on experience of others and personal knowledge of what this involves for the file system.

No probs. Guess I will go for the Western Digital EVDS , just need to decide on size / how much I want to pay
Thanks again
