Sky Plus HD upgrade query - confused !!

Postby JBW83S » Mon Dec 29, 2008 1:01 pm

Hi ,
aplogies for the 'newbie' question :D

I have a Sky plus Amstrad PVR3 and would like to upgrade the HD .I have done this previously with 2 PVR2's so OK technically, but am unsure of HD compatability with newer models.

Would the 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F1 SATA2 7200RPM 32MB cache work with my PVR3 ?

I'm confused over the SATA / IDE configuration and worried that SATA is only OK for HD boxes ; is this correct ?

If so, can anyone post a link for a good value 500gb or larger HD which will work....

Many thanks for any help and sorry for the 'muppet' queries :P

Yes - correct I am afraid.
PATA drives are required for Sky+ boxes, SATA drives for Sky+HD boxes.

The largest PATA drives are 750GB - I am not aware of any manufacturer manufacturing 1TB versions (all new drive designs are SATA only).

There are bridge converter boards that convert SATA drives to PATA interfaces, and I have used one successfully on a Pace PVR1.
However I wouldn't really recommend using one, as chances of a successful result are even less due to the increased number of variables.
